Human Rights Heroes Honored in Eighth Annual Tribute

 The city of L’Aquila in central Italy presented the Scientology Volunteer Ministers with a plaque in appreciation for their 18,000 volunteer hours spent helping the city and region recover from the 2009 L’Aquila earthquake.

Volunteer Ministers Help Sardinia Flood Victims

Volunteers from Scientology Churches and Missions throughout Italy mobilized to help those left stranded by Sardinia floods. Cyclone Cleopatra descended on the Italian island of Sardinia November 19, 2013, sweeping away cars and bridges, flooding streets and homes, killing 18 and leaving nearly 3,000 homeless.

The storm has been described as a “national tragedy” by Prime Minister Enrico Letta, and as “apocalyptic” by the mayor of Olbia, the town that took the brunt of its destructive force.

Looking Back on the Past Ten Years of the Volunteer Ministers Movement—2007 - 2009

Peru, 2007: Volunteer Ministers flew to Peru in August to provide aid when a magnitude 8 earthquake destroyed most of the city of Pisco.

The Scientology Volunteer Ministers who served at Ground Zero in the months following 9/11 set a standard for disaster response and inspired a movement that carried forward for the past decade, as evidenced by the work of Volunteer Ministers at disaster sites on six continents between 2007 and 2009.

Scientology-Sponsored Relief Team from Italy Leaves for Haiti

The team of eight Italian disaster specialists sponsored leaving Milan, Italy, this morning.

Milan, Italy - A team of eight Italian disaster specialists sponsored by the International Association of Scientologists arrived in La Romana, Dominican Republic, today, and is moving on to Haiti. Coming from Malpensa Airport in Milan, they took with them 2.7 tons of supplies, including more than 1,300 pounds of medical equipment and tents, 815 pounds of food, and 250 pounds of medicine.
