Scientology Volunteer Ministers in Haiti - The Week in Review

For several weeks Scientology Volunteer Ministers have been arranging food and other supplies for dozens of children in Port-au-Prince. The Volunteer Ministers continue to feed and care for the children, while professional Haitian orphanage administrators are working to find parents or other relatives.

This past week the first Volunteer Minister teams from Mexico, Russia and the United Kingdom arrived and replaced some of the American volunteer units who had been there for the last three weeks.

In total more than 12,200 people were reached with help this week, including 4,674 served with food and water, and care given to about 2,300 injured people. Several examples follow.

Supported by individuals and groups in the US, UK, Canada, Germany, France, Italy and elsewhere, Volunteer Ministers provide organizational support to medical teams, enabling the doctors and nurses to treat the injured.

Photo Series: In the General Hospital in Port-au-Prince, 23-24 January 2010

Following a report that predicted another earthquake in Haiti, all the patients were evacuated from the General Hospital in Port-au-Prince and were being treated on the street.

Scientology Volunteer Ministers from all over the world continue to arrive in Haiti to do whatever is needed to help the people of this country. Their transport has been made possible by the donations, large and small, of many Scientologists who are members of the International Association of Scientologists.

Photo Series: What are the Scientology Volunteer Ministers doing in Haiti?

On 12 January 2010 a major earthquake destroyed Haiti's already weak infrastructure, killing and injuring hundreds of thousands.

In the past five days the Church of Scientology Volunteer Minister corps has mobilized and safely transported more than 350 rescue and medical professionals and volunteer ministers to Haiti. Donations for tons of food and medicine were raised and the supplies were brought into Haiti for distribution, in coordination with the United Nations. Close to 100 Volunteer Ministers took time off jobs and left their families and the comfort of their homes to help people in Haiti. The following photos cover only a part of the many stories of our Scientology Volunteer Minister.

Photo Series: Orphans at the Port-au-Prince Airport, Haiti

These children lost their parents and are waiting at the airport for a new life in the United States and other countries. Many Americans want to help Haiti by adopting homeless and newly orphaned children.

Many organizations are working miracles to help Haitian orphans find a new home. Administrative scrambles prevent many of these homeless children to leave Haiti. The orphans in these photos are waiting for a ride on the Volunteer Ministers charter plane that is scheduled to deliver over 150 Scientology Volunteer Ministers and medical personnel to Haiti today and return with exhausted medical personnel and refugees.

The old woman in this photo was totally exhausted and passed out shortly after I shot it. The little boy was injured in the quake. During the flight, I acted as his guardian.

This was an orphanage. One of the worst tragedies of the already tragic event.

Photographer Brad is with the Scientology Volunteer Ministers on the ground taking a survey of the inner-city region of Port-au-Prince, Haiti, that was hit the hardest by the 7.0 earth quake exactly one week ago.
